I had removed the side case to fix a kickstart shaft seal leak. Putting it together, the Kickstarter return spring won't stay tensioned. Like it slips out sor something. So wanted to take it all apart and remove the shaft assembly. But I can't figure out how it comes apart.

There's a pocket machined for the gear on the casing preventing it from sliding off. So it appears as if it the shaft needs to slide off with gear staying behind. I'm guessing one of the spring tabs is hooked into the shaft preventing it from sliding off. Image

Anybody have experience or resources to share? I've looked at the parts diagram and watched video from a TRS, to no avail.

    Hi,

When you have the side case of, you can remove the complete kickstarter shaft.
On the back you see the spring. The spring has a hook how needs to slide in the machined groove in the case.
When you do it correct you can turn the shaft with tension on the spring. BY HAND

If so replace the side case with the some tension on the shaft otherwise the kickstarter catcher does not hit the metal plate in the side case.
Please take take notice for the little spacer from the waterpump axel.

    Good luck!
